Ingredients

  • 4 russet potatoes, cut into fries
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 1/2 cup copycat spread (see below)
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

    Soak cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes, then dry thoroughly.

    Toss with oil and bake at 425°F for 20-25 minutes, flipping once, until crispy and golden.

    Meanwhile, caramelize the onion in butter over medium-low heat for 12-15 minutes until deeply golden.

    Lay the fries on a plate, top with cheese slices, and broil 1-2 minutes until melted.

    Finish with the caramelized onions and a generous drizzle of spread.

💡 Pro tip

For the spread: 1/2 cup mayo, 2 tbsp ketchup, 2 tbsp sweet relish, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp white vinegar.
