Copycat In-N-Out Animal Style Fries

Ingredients
- 4 russet potatoes, cut into fries
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 tbsp butter
- 6 slices American cheese
- 1/2 cup copycat spread (see below)
- Salt, to taste

Soak cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes, then dry thoroughly.

Toss with oil and bake at 425°F for 20-25 minutes, flipping once, until crispy and golden.

Meanwhile, caramelize the onion in butter over medium-low heat for 12-15 minutes until deeply golden.

Lay the fries on a plate, top with cheese slices, and broil 1-2 minutes until melted.
