Best Value Fast Food Meals — September 2026 Update

Best Value Fast Food Meals — September 2026 Update

The fast food value war is still going strong in 2026, but the battlefield shifts fast. If you're still ordering by last year's playbook, you're probably overpaying. We verified the current lineup against each chain's official site and newsroom, and here's what actually changed this summer.

Wendy's: 4 for $4 is gone — Biggie Deals replaced it

The classic Wendy's 4 for $4 has officially been retired. In January 2026 Wendy's launched its Biggie Deals menu with three tiers: the $4 Biggie Bites (pick two — Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Jr. Cheeseburger, Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, 4-pc nuggets, or Jr. fry), the $6 Biggie Bag (a sandwich, 4-pc nuggets, Jr. fry, and small drink), and the $8 Biggie Bundle (two sandwiches, Jr. fry, and a small drink). It's basically the old 4 for $4, grown up and made more customizable.

KFC: a new $5 Chicken Variety Box

KFC's answer to the $5 war arrived in May 2026. The new KFC $5 Chicken Variety Box packs two pieces of chicken, five nuggets, a dipping sauce, and a drink. There's also a limited-time 5 for $5 Tenders offer for Rewards members. Note that KFC's larger Fill Ups meals are now $7 (three-piece tenders or two-piece chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuit, pie poppers, and a medium drink).

Domino's: Mix & Match holds at $6.99, plus two new items

Domino's Mix & Match deal — choose any two items for $6.99 each — is still going strong. In July the chain added S'mores Lava Cakes to the deal, and in August it launched the Domino™, its first pizza with a new name in more than 65 years, available through Mix & Match for $6.99.

McDonald's: the $5 Meal Deal is still here

The McDonald's $5 Meal Deal continues — your choice of a McChicken or McDouble, four-piece McNuggets, small fries, and a small drink. The McDouble version runs $6 in some areas, and the Daily Double was added as an entree option this year. McDonald's also added a $4 Breakfast Meal Deal and an Under $3 menu in April 2026.

Taco Bell: $5 Luxe Cravings Box still leads on customization

Taco Bell keeps the $5, $7, and $9 Luxe Cravings Boxes on the menu, and its Build Your Own Luxe Cravings Box remains the most customizable value deal in fast food — pick a specialty item, a taco or burrito, a side, and a medium drink. The Luxe Value Menu (10 items at $3 or less) rounds out the value lineup.

Burger King: the $5 meal is back, but check the app

Burger King's $5 value meal returned in 2026, but availability varies by franchise — in many areas it's app-exclusive. You'll also find the $4.99 double cheeseburger with fries and a drink, the Ultimate Steakhouse Whopper (new this year), and the $5 Duo / $7 Trio combos at participating locations.

Popeyes and Subway: periodic promos, not permanent

Popeyes ran its $5 Faves Menu (3-pc chicken, 3 tenders, 2 wraps, or 2 sides) from January through spring, and Subway keeps returning its $6.99 Any Footlong code (699FL) as a limited-time app offer — most recently in February 2026. Both are worth watching but aren't guaranteed from one month to the next, so grab them when they're live.

The bottom line

If you're budgeting in September 2026, the safest bets are McDonald's $5 Meal Deal, Taco Bell's $5 Classic Luxe Cravings Box, Domino's Mix & Match at $6.99, and KFC's new $5 Chicken Variety Box. Wendy's Biggie Bites at $4 is the cheapest entry point now that 4 for $4 is gone. Prices and participation vary by location, so confirm in the chain's app before you order.
